I’ve been on my diet for two weeks. I’ve lost six pounds. The food leaves a lot to be desired, but if it was really tasty and had all the qualities we attach to comfort and “illicit” foods it wouldn’t be a diet, would it? I’m allowed vegetables which is nice because I like vegetables, the bad news is most of the are cruciform vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts etc. They produce gas and OTC products are complicated, swallow or chew two capsules before meals or wait until chemical warfare has begun and take one hoping that you don’t have to be in an elevator, crowded supermarket or any place you have to wait. The other problem is having to drink eight glasses of…
I am a dues paying member of the American Humanist Society. I don’t agree with all of their ideas, the main one being there is no God. I just don’t believe in the white haired perpetually pissed off god who had the Jews wander around the desert for forty years and wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah. I can’t deal with an entity who makes up arbitrary rules. One is circumcision, why? If he didn’t want foreskins he should have left them off. Not eating pork? Ham, bacon and barbeque pork shoulder are among the top three foods in the world. He overreacted, Lot’s turned for a peek and he had her wind up as a pillar of salt. Not to mention the Ten Commandments.…

For those of us who actually have to work to keep up with “essential” matters in life that don’t include the “essential” golf courses and “essential” fitness clubs where you will find our congressmen during the shutdown, we found this delightful web site for you…
Ten some days into the government shutdown, I’ve began to notice similarities between it and Windows 8. First of all, they’re supposed to work most of the time but don’t. Second, a lot of people got it even though they really didn’t want it. Thirdly, it sounded like a good idea at first but needs modifications and nobody seems to want to do them. Okay, let’s look at the first point. The government was put together by some of the wisest men of their time. They dealt with problems that were germane to their lives, freedom of religion, the press, the right to vote (for free men) and the right to self govern. They ignored women, native Americans, non-whites and slaves. Salves were freed,…
The Toshiba is still in South Windsor CT. The disc is still being fished out. I kind of miss it. The replacement is a skittish and basically inept machine. How can a machine be inept? Isn’t that a human characteristic? Nope. Machine can be inept. The washer when you’re doing laundry and have sorted the loads and kept them all about the same size. Some load in the middle of the continuum of laundry will make it to the end of the cycle and you try to take it out to either hang it on the line or run it through the dryer and it’s soaked with suds. Another run through the cycle and it still weighs about five pounds more than it did…
