First of all, Happy Birtday Edward R. Murrow, 4/25/1908
Rudy Guiliani endorsed Mitt Romney this week. Attorney General anyone? The really amazing thing was he didn’t work 9/11 into it. Maybe he forgot, it being election year and all. He used to be cool. Now he’s just another Republican hack trying to keep his name alive in case there’s a job open if Mitt wins.
Mitt Romney says the Veep search is in “early stages” (see above). Marco Rubio from Florida seems to be the one the news and Republican pundits like this week. Time will tell. Mitt could follow Dick Nixon and George H.W. Bush and pick a total unknown with no baggage who’ll, if he or she screws up will keep comics happy. Who can forget Spiro Agnew with his alliteration and complete disdain for the Left. Or Dan Quayle who almost became an elder statesman. My money is on Jeb Bush. He doesn’t want the job now, but wave the idea of being the Bush who wasn’t a hack, he might jump.
Accretive Health, the nation’s largest collector of medical debt has been putting collection agents in hospitals to harass patients. They threaten to withold tratment until payment is recieved. Wow, do they have a branch office in the afterlife? Maybe just one, to collect from the souls in Hell. Bill collectors go straight to Hell, do not pass Go, try to collect $200. The State of Minnesota is in discussions with state and federal regulators to see what action can be taken.
Pizza Hut strikes again (twice). Pizza Hut, that purveyor of authentic Italian food has come out with two new permutations of the pizzas they’ve been foisting on the public. The first is for foriegn consumption; a cheeseburger pizza. Yes, folks, a pie made up of a ring of cheeseburgers surrounding a pie garnished with lettuce, tomato and special sauce. The second entry is for American consumption. A large one topping pizza surrounded by Dippin’ Pieces. dough surrounded by cheese, and sauce to dip them in. Look, we’re overweight with too many food choices and the better part of the World population is starving.
What I’m listening to:
Slipstream by Bonnie Raitt I can’t say enough about this album. They’ve got a Gerry Rafferty song, Right Down the Line, as the hit, but any of the cuts would make it. I’m biased and have a crush on Bonnie Raitt but she gets better and better and she plays the hell out of the slide guitar.
Joe’s Garage by Frank Zappa This is a second try at this one. You’ve got to listen to Zappa’s lyrics because the avant-garde music sometimes makes his albums off-limits to the uninitiated. Once you listen, you find out Zappa is not for the faint-hearted.
